Arc

How can you claim to be happy?
You rise like water,
and fall with its motions.
You arc.
Breaking as you fall,
as laws of nature pull you down.

The idea is not to think you are water shooting up
and to think you’re happy.

The idea is to not blink
When your eyes are burning as you have seen a slaughter.

Glare into the world as it glares back at you.
This stand off.
It’s a signal you’re on.
On a trajectory greater than shooting water.
You’re aiming to fall,
keeping your greatest enemy closer.

Wanderer above the Sea of Fog – Caspar David Friedrich, 1818
